FAQ
Do I have to be a member to participate?
No, like most student organizations on campus, the events we share publicly are are open to all interested students. However, these spaces will tend to cater to or focus on Black womxn, so you must be comfortable in spaces that center Black womxn voices. We look forward to seeing you!
How often does GRO meet?
Each member's time commitment varies and depends on how involved in the organization they are. We have several events each quarter, committees meet regularly, and we have monthly organizational meetings, which only leadership are required to attend. So time commitment can be anywhere from 1-5 hours a week depending on a person's rank within the organization.
What types of events do you host?
We are a fairly new organization so we've only hosted a few events so far. We tend to participate in events where we can support or partner with Black womxn-owned and Black-owned businesses in Chicago. As our organization grows, we'd like to host more events that more directly supports the goals outlined in our mission. However, we also place an emphasis on member initiatives, so if there's an event idea you have, we'd love to hear it!
How do I apply?
We no longer consider our membership process an application process, but instead registration. Registration is open during Fall and Winter quarter each year, and new members are accepted on a rolling basis. Our registration form is fairly short and is mostly used to get to learn more about you.
